Nuclear Futures is a continuation of a body of work related to the global nuclear fuel chain which was completed in May, 2020. More specifically, it draws a connection between current and historic uranium mining practices around the globe and the environmental impact those practices have had on local populations, the uneven distribution of power which has occurred due to colonial uranium mining practices, and current and future methods of disposing high level nuclear waste.
Building on 3D renders, satellite image compositions and extensive research – analysis of past and present nuclear landscapes will be woven together with a speculative vision of the future of high level nuclear waste disposal. Utilizing scholar Michelle Murphy’s concept of regimes of perceptibility: “The assemblages of social and technical things that make certain hazards and health effects visible, and others invisible” specific points of tension in these landscapes will be revealed and analyzed.
Morgan Mueller is an Artist and Researcher originally from Reno, Nevada. He is a graduate of New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program where he used emerging technologies to explore new modes of artistic exploration and social/ecological awareness. He is one of the co-founders of, and presently developing, Trash Club, a community platform for facilitating ongoing engagement with waste in New York City and beyond. His artistic practice explores systems of infrastructure in the context of labor, resource extraction and global trade.
