Dr. Lori Beavis


Lori Beavis is the Executive Director of Centre d’art daphne, the first Indigenous artist-run centre in Tiohtià:ke/ Mooniyang/Montreal. Identifying as being of Michi Sagiig (Mississauga Anishinaabe) and Irish-Welsh descent, she is a citizen of Hiawatha First Nation at Rice Lake, Ontario. Beavis is an independent curator, art educator and art historian whose work, art practice, and research, articulate narrative and memory in the context of family and cultural history, and reflects on cultural identity, art education and self-representation. Since 2019, Beavis has served on the Executive of the Indigenous Curatorial Collective/Collectif des Commissaires Autochtones (IC/CA) Board of Directors.

Myra J. Hird, D.Phil., QNS, FRSC is a Professor in the School of Environmental Studies, Queen’s University, Canada (www.myrahird.com). Hird is Director of Waste Flow (www.wasteflow.ca). Author of eleven books (including one in press and one forthcoming) and >70 refereed articles and book chapters, Hird has delivered 72 invited lectures in 10 countries including 27 keynote addresses, and is regularly featured on major news media such as the CBC and BBC. 

Micky Renders
Micky Renders


Micky Renders is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Environmental Studies, Queen’s University, and a member of Canada’s Waste Flow, an interdisciplinary research team connecting people interested in the topic of waste. Her research aims to animate the issue of waste(s) in collaboration with Inuit artists in Pangnirtung, Nunavut. Her project seeks to use a decolonial framework that serves as an urgent call to action on Arctic waste(s), for which she was awarded the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Doctoral Scholarship. Her career as an artist/educator/activist spans over 20 years. She has earned national, provincial, and local awards in recognition of her accomplishments.

Hillary Predko
Hillary Predko


Hillary Predko is an artist, researcher, and writer who explores the intersection of industrial production and the environment. She holds a BDes from OCAD University and is an MES candidate at Queen’s University and SSHRC award holder. Hillary is a regular guest editor for The Prepared, a newsletter about manufacturing and the built world. She loves speculative fiction, mapping, repair, and trying to keep her houseplants alive.

Jacob Riha
Jacob Riha


Jacob Riha is a researcher, activist and amateur photographer who enjoys contesting the zero-sum stigma of environment versus economy. His current project explores the relationship between industry and government/plastics and fossil fuels as a product of corporate influence and capitalist power. He holds undergraduate degrees in both Environmental Biology and Economics and is currently an MES candidate at Queen’s University.
